Mispar vs Pilot: which fits your business?
Pilot starts with a $99 software-driven plan and adds a US-based bookkeeper from its Core tier. Mispar includes a dedicated bookkeeper on every plan, from $229/mo. Here is how they compare on price, scope and fit.
What Pilot offers today
Pilot’s pricing page lists three bookkeeping tiers. Essentials is $99 per month for businesses with up to $100,000 in monthly expenses. It is software-driven, uses cash-basis books built from your bank and card data, and includes in-app messaging. Core adds a US-based bookkeeper, cash or accrual books, a custom chart of accounts and support by in-app message, email and phone. Custom is for more complex needs and says you can keep your existing QuickBooks account. Pilot also sells tax filing and CFO services separately.
What Mispar offers
Mispar’s four bookkeeping plans are $229, $429, $629 and $1,250 per month. Each is a fixed price for an agreed scope, billed monthly with no long-term contract, and each includes a dedicated bookkeeper, a monthly close and tax-ready financial statements. The books live in a QuickBooks Online or Xero file in your name. Mispar does not file taxes or provide CFO advisory. We send clean records to your CPA.
When Pilot is the better choice
If your books are simple and your expenses are under $100,000 a month, Pilot Essentials at $99 costs less than any Mispar plan, and software-driven bookkeeping may be enough. If you want accrual books, investor-style reporting, tax filing and CFO support from one vendor, Pilot’s higher tiers are built for that.
When Mispar is the closer fit
If you want one named bookkeeper handling your month-end close from day one, a fixed monthly price and no annual commitment, Mispar is the closer fit. It also suits owner-operated businesses in trades, retail, food service and professional services that need industry-specific accounts and reports, and anyone who wants to be able to meet their bookkeeper in person.
Questions to ask any provider before you sign
Who will be my day-to-day contact, and how do I reach them? Which tier includes a human bookkeeper? Is the price fixed or does it move with my expenses? Is billing monthly or annual? Is there an onboarding or catch-up fee? Whose QuickBooks or Xero file are my books in, and can I export them if I leave? Get the answers in writing and compare them side by side.
Where Mispar and Pilot differ
A named person who knows your business, on every plan
Pilot’s lowest tier, Essentials at $99/mo, is software-driven with in-app messaging. A US-based bookkeeper is part of its Core tier and above. Every Mispar plan, starting at $229/mo, includes a dedicated bookkeeper.
Fixed monthly price for an agreed scope
Pilot prices by monthly expenses. Mispar’s four bookkeeping plans are fixed monthly prices for an agreed scope, billed monthly with no long-term contract.
Your books in your own QuickBooks or Xero file
Mispar works inside a QuickBooks Online or Xero file in your name from day one. Pilot says its Custom plan can keep your existing QuickBooks account, so ask which tier you would be on.
Industry-aware setup
COGS for restaurants, inventory for retail, job costing for contractors: Mispar sets up category-specific accounts and reports for your industry as part of the scope.
Local and in person, if you want it
Mispar has an office in Spring Valley, NY, and works with businesses in all 50 states. If you prefer to meet face to face, you can.

Switching from Pilot
Pilot starts at $99 a month. Why would I pay more for Mispar?
Pilot’s $99 Essentials plan is software-driven with in-app support. If your books are simple and you are comfortable working mostly on your own, it can be a good fit. Mispar’s plans start at $229 because every plan includes a dedicated bookkeeper who handles your monthly close. Compare Pilot’s Core tier, which adds a US-based bookkeeper, with the Mispar plan that matches your scope.
Is Pilot better for startups?
Pilot offers accrual books, CFO advisory and tax services, which suit companies that need investor-style reporting from one vendor. Mispar does not offer CFO advisory or tax filing. If you mainly need clean monthly bookkeeping and statements your CPA can use, Mispar is built for that.
How does the dedicated bookkeeper compare?
Both offer a human bookkeeper on paid tiers: Pilot from its Core plan, Mispar on every plan. Ask each provider who your day-to-day contact is, how you reach them and how fast they respond, and compare the answers in writing.
Can you take over from Pilot mid-year?
Yes. We move your books into your own QuickBooks or Xero file, reconcile the transition month and continue from there, so your CPA sees one continuous set of books for the year. Catch-up work, if any is needed, is quoted before we start.
What about pricing as I grow?
Mispar’s four bookkeeping plans are Startup $229, Grow $429, Premium $629 and Enterprise $1,250 per month, each a fixed price for an agreed scope. If your needs fall outside those four, a Custom plan is priced by consultation. Any change to your scope or price is agreed with you before it takes effect, and catch-up bookkeeping is quoted separately.
